Dr Robyn O

Experience

Robyn spent 14 years working her way up the ladder in the corporate world before starting college at 32 and taking 6.5 years to earn her undergrad, masters and doctorate in organizational psychology. In the past ten years she has become a sought-after coach for high performance achievement, conflict resolution, negotiation, and speaker training. Her book, The Ultimate Guide to Handling Every Disagreement Every Time is a favorite for sparking productive, facilitated conversations within organizations. She is best known for her keen observations and ability to ask the right question, in the right way, at the right moment to get someone to think about a situation differently.

Expertise

Robyn grew up on a small beef ranch, the oldest of eight children, where she learned to observe, problem solve, communicate, work as a team, and lead early in life. In her twenties and early thirties, she was a competitive beach volleyball player. There is little in life that will force you to focus your resources and communicate like two people covering an entire sand volleyball court.

Wanting to understand what drove peak human performance and how to help others achieve it, she went to college to study psychology.

Her background in competitive sports and her problem-solving nature gives her coaching and facilitation a goal-focused feel. The twists and turns of her personal life experience make her compassionate to the chaos of real life and a trusted confidant.

Clients have described Robyn “Like Maggie Stiff’s character, Wendy Rhoades, in the Showtime series Billions. Better at keeping confidences than a best friend. A consigliere, an advisor, and a sounding board.”

Coaching style

Working with Robyn has been compared to working with an athletic coach. Quick to celebrate wins and learn from losses; trust, dialogue, mutual respect, and shared focus are important aspects of Robyn's style. She works best with people who are interested in achieving their personal best and are willing to investigate any aspect that might be holding them back.

Her use of motivational interviewing techniques quickly creates open conversations that ferret out the root of a situation so it can be learned from and addressed.

Coaching philosophy

Always be learning.

I wish that everyone had the ongoing opportunity to work with an individual coach and that teams always had access to a trained facilitator. My corporate career would have benefited greatly if I had had both. Getting an outside perspective from someone you trust is priceless. Having my own coach now allows me to be a better coach and facilitator for my clients.

I connected with my coach on our very first call and I believe that made the whole difference for me. I wish I could dig deeper on some of my remaining issues but unfortunately all good things have to end. I will definitely recommend coaching and have been already doing it for while. It definitely changed my life.

Tim has provided some high quality coaching support to me through a time of transition both in terms of job, career and organisational changes. He is a skilled and experienced executive coach who facilitated just the right mix of reflection, future visioning, challenge, compassion and stretch. I’d strongly recommend working with him if you are going through a career or organisation transition. Fun to work with, I always left my sessions with him feeling significantly clearer and more content with my overall direction of travel and next steps.

“I selected my coach on the basis that she had a completely different approach to my structured way of thinking. Katherine challenged me and took me way out of my comfort zone – scary and uncomfortable at times but eye-opening. These coaching sessions enabled me to see things from a very different perspective, gave me the time and space to reflect on my practice and provided practical tips and approaches as to how I can develop my performance.”

Please continue with the programme. For a guy, like Paul, who does not use the word 'fantastic', who then uses it..it must be really good!

Everyone learnt a lot about themselves and others. It was the first training in English that one of my mentors had done and it was really successful for him. We have all come away feeling more confident. I have been on many development programmes and I have to say it has been one of the best I have ever attended.
