How coaching changes lives

Before being coached through Unlimited Potential, Peter’s (not his real name) career had stalled and his health was in jeopardy. Through one-to-one leadership coaching, Unlimited Potential helped him overcome his health issues and kick-start his career.

Peter’s career was at a standstill. He was overweight, a smoker and a heavy drinker. His unhealthy lifestyle meant he had developed type 2 diabetes. Peter had been with his organisation for nearly two decades and he had reached a senior management position. His health issues meant he was increasingly working from home and less visible in the office. Although Peter was well-respected within his own team, his managers were concerned about his communication skills. His leadership team asked Unlimited Potential to intervene with one-to-one leadership coaching

The Unlimited Potential coach used the first coaching session to understand Peter’s situation and the reasons behind his poor health. Peter’s unhealthy lifestyle was affecting his self-confidence, his communication skills, his day-to-day work and his career. It was clear he wanted to address his physical condition and wellbeing, so using a combination of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and Eriksonian hypnosis, the coach focused on Peter’s willingness to change and offered him options he might like to explore.

“[My Unlimited Potential coach] helps me see thing with different eyes. If I feel I have a challenge and it’s a bit of an impossible task he’ll break it down for me and help me see it in a different light. I always leave our coaching sessions with a more positive approach” Peter

Peter began changing his habits immediately after the first coaching session. He’d already lost several kilograms by the second session – and his improving health meant he was in the office more. He was encouraged by the results and keen to continue his progress.

The transformation continued, so by the fourth session Peter had reversed his diabetes and substantially enhanced his career prospects. He’d improved his relationships with colleagues and managers – and most importantly, he had started to believe in himself again.

Peter has continued being stretched and challenged by his Unlimited Potential coach and is still working on his own self-development. He’s currently focusing on improving his leadership style and communication skills.

Unlimited Potential’s coaching has directly resulted in a transformation of Peter’s career, health and life. He has persisted with his weight-loss programme and has also cut back on his drinking. He’s developing a new global role for himself within the organisation – creating his own job specification and bringing a new team together.

I wish I could dig deeper on some of my remaining issues but unfortunately all good things have to end. I will definitely recommend coaching and have been already doing it for while.  Tim has provided some high quality coaching support to me through a time of transition both in terms of job, career and organisational changes. He is a skilled and experienced executive coach who facilitated just the right mix of reflection, future visioning, challenge, compassion and stretch. I’d strongly recommend working with him if you are going through a career or organisation transition. Fun to work with, I always left my sessions with him feeling significantly clearer and more content with my overall direction of travel and next steps.

“I selected my coach on the basis that she had a completely different approach to my structured way of thinking. Katherine challenged me and took me way out of my comfort zone – scary and uncomfortable at times but eye-opening. These coaching sessions enabled me to see things from a very different perspective, gave me the time and space to reflect on my practice and provided practical tips and approaches as to how I can develop my performance.”

Please continue with the programme. For a guy, like Paul, who does not use the word 'fantastic', who then uses it..it must be really good!

Everyone learnt a lot about themselves and others. It was the first training in English that one of my mentors had done and it was really successful for him. We have all come away feeling more confident. I have been on many development programmes and I have to say it has been one of the best I have ever attended.
