Presentation skills workshop tips charisma, comfortable shoes and avoiding coffee as keys to success

04/06/09

Charisma, comfortable shoes and avoiding coffee are the keys to a successful presentation according to expert trainer Steve Thomson, who will be running a masterclass on the subject in London in August.

Aimed at novice and intermediate business presenters as well as HR and training professionals, the interactive two-hour workshop will cover what constitutes a presentation, what to wear, the correct pitch and tone of voice and body language, and simple relaxation exercises.

"Everyone from the most successful businesspeople to newcomers can feel intimidated by the prospect of talking to a room full of people," says Steve, an associate coach at Unlimited Potential.

He added: "Many believe great presenters are naturally gifted and charismatic, but it's a skill that anyone can easily learn.

"There are some simple tricks you can use that instantly transform the way you present. A successful presenter will appear confident and relaxed, use the right body language and tone of voice, dress well but comfortably and they will have passed on the cappuccino and sweets.

"They will also have done their homework and prepared in advance, whether it's for an informal chat with the boss asking for a pay rise to presenting a new report to colleagues at a conference.

"The two will feel completely different, but the tactics and strategies needed for a successful presentation are the same.

"The workshop will provide a combination of techniques and tools designed to give you the confidence and personal gravitas to present with impact. And attendees will notice the difference immediately.

"Great presentation skills are a valuable asset in business because presenting isn't just something that occurs when you're asked to stand on a stage. Rather it is something that we do all day every day, with clients, suppliers, colleagues, and even friends and family."

More Than Words takes place on 18 August at One Aldwych hotel, London, and starts at 8.30am and finishes at 11am.

The cost is £45 per person. Places are limited and are offered on a first come, first served basis.
