"I now spend more time looking at the strategic direction of the business and make my decisions based on clear objectives; enabling me to build a good team and delegate more effectively"
The manager's view following the programme.
The Background
Our Client is a highly successful, rapidly-expanding civil engineering contractor working in the South East area. They have ongoing work repairing, maintaining and renewing the roads, footpaths and highways. They are pioneers in their field.
The company has five divisional directors each with totally different characters, aspirations and ways of working despite the fact that they were all working to the same company objectives and in the same fields. They each had their own methods of dealing with a similar issue.
It was felt that there could be significant improvements in efficiency and effectiveness with a programme of specialised coaching and some improved self-awareness.
The Intervention
Following some years of individual executive coaching with the managing director, during which some serious strategic development was initiated, the business took the decision to extend this process to the five divisional directors. The programme was to be specifically designed with their individual and collective talents and attitudes in mind.
Our People Changer™ was chosen for her experience with this issue and her skills insured maximum impact. On the first visit some resistance was experienced "how and why do I need my attitude changed", and "we are working well enough together" were typical of the concerns that were expressed.
The first meeting with each of them was focused on their individual approach, how their particular character related to other people in the organisation, how their attitude affected them and other people and how they could work more closely together. At the end of each of these meetings every one of the five was eager to book up the next one.
The Results
This ongoing programme has already had considerable impact in many areas including;
- Improved impact on people they relate to in the organisation
- Better self motivation
- Understanding and development of a ten-year business plan for their division which has been incorporated into the company plan – this has had a major impact company wise
- Identification and development towards further promotion
- More effective directors
- A greater understanding of how their operations fit into the overall company bigger picture
The programme has been so successful that it is now being extended to the level below the Divisional directors
The Return on Investment has been measured with improved efficiencies in working practices, delegation and time management. There are plans in place for high-level structural changes which will affect considerable overhead savings. The coaching programme has been a major contribution to this.
Unlimited Potential takes the confidentiality of its clients very seriously, the names of the company, participant and indeed what they do has been removed to protect that confidence. All the case studies are real, with ongoing programmes.
